Werk werk werk

It's strange , I 've been reading more of the comments on Constance Halls post where she asked what do SAHM's do all day(and hoped they mainlined wine ,sobering up just on time for the school run). I don't tent to read to much of them on Mommy Bloggers(not sure I like this title so much for the genre , I mean they do exhist outside of being Mothers) as they can descend into bickering, defensiveness and the people feeling they have to justify themselves. A follower said she does chores inside and out, runs a small businesss , takes care of her elderly Dad, walks the dog and does yoga while being responsible for 2 girls activities and is still expected to get a job.  She didn't mention a spouse or any extra help so it's possible she's doing everything herself. Which I think is no mean feat even if you have all the help.
Constance replied that society isn't set up for everyone to 'work' ( as in go out to a job everyday) ,some of us need to care for the young and old. Which is bloody work too! But we as a society tend to disregard this work now as something people just have to do and should'nt be paid or receive supports to do.And it is something Penelope Trunk frequently refrains, albeit more bluntly. I do think they both make valid points. The thing with Penelope though is that it scares me when she says that ideally there should be a bread winner and someone who takes care of the home. In an idillyic world this would be fine . But the society most of us live in , I know I'm generalising, we need money to buy the things we need to survive. We don't tend to live communally or near our family anymore so we have to somehow provide these things for ourselves. I'll put it this way , I'm scared of being left high and dry without any money of my own. Hell, when I showed my 13 year old this meme she said 'Why doesn't she have one already?
