Lost in Translation

I'm reading comments from English people on The Unmumsy Mum. blog. They frequently call what I call the worktop the bench, what I call drawers or presses   they call 'draws'or cupboards. My Childs Father is English yet his Mother is Irish. He  didn't know what I was on about when I talked about putting things away in' presses' . He just let me witter on about it for ages before he finally figured it out.And we're all supposed to be speaking English. And what about ditches and dykes? To me the height is the ditch and the hollow the dyke. And you don't dig a ditch you dig a drain. I think tis the opposite way around in the rest of the world. And what about housecoats, dressing gowns and bathrobes?
Ruth: the ruth frequently mentioned is this one. She's fictional. No Real Ruths were harmed in the making of this thread.

Heres the thread for you to enjoy. I never thought things like this could be so funny yet here I am skitting in the corner with my  13 year old looking at me as if I'm not right in the head. Are you a Ripper or a Snipper?
